Our Mission

Challenging the Truman community to Fully Living, Humbly Serving, and Joyfully Sharing the way of Jesus.

Your college years will be a time of significant growth, personal and spiritual development. Our goal is for you to become a true follower of Jesus who fully lives (John 10:10), humbly serves (Mark 10:45), and joyfully shares (1 Thessalonians 2:8).

  • Fully Living: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
    -John 10:10 (NIV)

Jesus said he came so that people could have a full life. Fully living is our way of embracing this purpose of Jesus. Our desire is for people to understand themselves as a unique creation with an identity, strengths, gifts, interests and purpose whose combination can only be found in them. We desire to help them discover and unleash these qualities so they can truly live in the fullness Jesus talked about.

  • Humbly Serves: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
    -Mark 10:45 (NIV)

Jesus also said he did not come to be served but to serve. Humbly serving is the phrase we use to communicate this purpose of Jesus. We believe that as people serve the world focusing on others needs vice their own desires they will experience an even greater fulfillment in life. This will build on 1 above and experience an even greater fullness of life.

  • Joyfully Shares: "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us."
    -1 Thessalonians 2:8 (NIV)

Sharing what is happening in our lives as we live out number 1 and 2 will lead to us joyfully sharing what is happening. It will be a natural overflow of our lives and will be expressed not only in the words of our mouths but the joy in our lives.

Fully living, humbly serving and joyfully sharing are not places to arrive but a way to take the journey. They are not sequential, but require simultaneous interaction. Neither are they isolated but instead compliment each other and work together to help you become – the you God created you to be.

We are supported by Baptist churches from the local area and the state as well as our alumni, student parents and other friends of the ministry. They are vital partners in our work. But our ministry is not just for people who are Baptists. We have students from many different faith backgrounds and we rally around two areas: 1) focusing on Jesus and living like Him 2) fulfilling our mission to the Truman Community. Regardless of where your previous faith journey took you, we invite you to check out the BSU and see if God is leading you to this faith community.

Fully living, humbly serving, and joyfully sharing is our mission. We look forward to being a part of God’s work in our community.
